UK IUU Regulation Changes Introduce New Documentation Requirements for Fish and Fishery Product Imports

From 26th November 2026, new UK Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing regulations will introduce additional documentation requirements for fish and fishery product imports into Great Britain.

The changes, announced by DEFRA, are intended to improve traceability throughout the seafood supply chain, combat illegal fishing activity, and strengthen controls preventing products from IUU fishing entering the UK market.

What is Changing?

Importers will be required to provide additional information and supporting documentation, including:

• Updated Catch Certificates containing enhanced information such as fishing gear used, catch area and fishing dates.

• Processing Statements for fishery products that have undergone processing before importation.

• A new Non-Manipulation Document, which will replace the current storage document in certain circumstances.

• Uploading all relevant IUU documentation to the appropriate UK digital imports system.

• Compliance with updates to the UK IUU Vessel List, which will be aligned with current Regional Fisheries Management Organisation lists.

What Does This Mean for Importers?

Businesses importing fish and fishery products into Great Britain should review their existing supply chain documentation processes and engage with suppliers well in advance of the implementation date.

Ensuring that the correct information is available prior to shipment will be essential to avoid delays, compliance issues, and potential disruptions to imports.

Effective Date

📅 26th November 2026

The new requirements will apply to imports of fish and fishery products entering Great Britain from this date onwards.
