Adverse weather conditions in Spain

Spain’s forecaster has issued a red weather alert for the Costa Blanca around Alicante and Valencia after a tornado was spotted off the coast of Majorca and the island was hit by severe rain and hail.

The adverse weather conditions that affected the north-east of Spain earlier this week have moved on to the eastern region of the Balearic Islands, Valencia and Alicante causing power outages and flash floods.

A number of freight trains have been cancelled as a result. Rail departures are not expected to resume until the early part of next week which could have a negative impact on transit times as containers may not arrive in time to connect with the intended vessels.

Road transport is also likely to be affected by road closures as a result of flooding.

The region is at “extreme risk” of further downpours with storms likely to hit Valencia, Alicante, Murcia & Castellon in the next 24 hours.

We will endeavour to keep any delays to a minimum, and as always we will keep you fully informed should your consignments be directly affected.
