Rice Imports

Rice imports into the UK are subject to licencing. Generally, if the quantity of rice within a consignment exceeds a specified minimum weight (indicated by the tariff classification code) then an import licence will be required.

This licence is issued electronically and is issued by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).
Depending on the country of origin of the goods and the classification code applicable, there may be tariff quotas available for rice imports.

Quotas can offer a reduced duty rate on import of the goods; however these are subject to eligibility rules and approval by the RPA. Quota approval is also indicated on the import licence issued.

For more information on rice licencing please speak our in-house Customs Clearance and Port Health department.
