The UK left the EU on 31.01.2020 and has now entered a Transition Period which will last until 31.12.2020
During this time, the UK will remain within the Customs Union and the Single Market allowing for the free movement of goods between the UK and the EU. The Government will enter negotiations with the EU during this time with the view to securing a trade deal with the EU from 01.01.2021.
Negotiations will also be entered into with countries outside of the EU to secure trade deals that can be implemented once the Transition Period is over.
In the interim period, imports and exports from/to the EU will continue without additional checks or charges being applied.
HMRC have written to businesses to clarify the UK’s position following our exit from the EU and offer guidance regarding what steps need to be taken now to continue trading with the EU once the transitional period expires on 31.12.2020
